*********
The Cheshire, North Wales and Shropshire Retriever and Spaniel Society held its final trial of the season today, 21st January 2026, at Checkley Wood Shoot.
It was a driven novice trial for 14 dogs, most of which sat patiently through a very long and heavy pheasant drive.
Dogs were lost from the trial very quickly for a variety of reasons, but most of these will probably be rectified in the coming months with some more training. Only 3 dogs were taken through to the third round and at the end of this round the judges decided they had seen enough to declare the trial over.
The results were
1st Astraglen Jamie handled by Brian Jones
2nd Laggengill Loganberry of Oakholland handled by Lauren Oakes
3rd Greenbriar Brassie handled by Carole Clarke
Thanks to our host, Ivor Beavis, the judges David Latham, Barry Cooper, Tucker Munday and Louise Munchaus-Adsboel.
A driven trial needs a lot of helpers to mark the fallen birds amongst other things, and our thanks go to all those who volunteered to help, Tula, Carol, Sian, Suzanne, Phil and anyone else who I may have forgotten.
Big thanks to our sponsors Skinners for their continued support.
